Meet Nolan!

We know that people are the heartbeat of any company, so we had a chat with Nolan Chock to find out more about him and his work at Kinetic IT

What is your role at Kinetic IT?

I am Kinetic IT’s Bid and Design Manager and head up the team who’s principle role is to assess any tenders or customer opportunities to ensure that they are a fit for Kinetic IT. We will then work together to produce a customer proposal based on the requirements. Although I have a structured cabling background this role covers many diverse sectors as well as varied services which we offer to our customers. These can be anything from data centre white space fit outs to office dilapidations to data centre migrations to simply assisting a customer choose the correct level of intelligence for their PDUs. I enjoy working alongside customers since they all have different needs and viewpoints, especially when we can help add clarity to their requirements by making sense of their requirements and deliver their vision.

How long have you worked there?

I have been with Kinetic IT for 10 years and have worked with the directors for many more years in previous companies.

Are there any stand out projects over the last year?

We recently worked with a leading global cloud solutions company to decommission, relocate, reinstall and commission 384 servers in 9 hours and 24 minutes! There was a considerable amount of pressure to deliver this project in the time frame and I am proud of the team who carried this out in record time and resulted in a very satisfied customer.

Another project was for an American University with a campus in London. They had to relocate to a new building and we took ownership of the full design and implementation including the network deployment and management of the WAN installation. This was another challenging but extremely successful project.

Could you let us know a little about your masters degree?

I am currently studying for a Masters Degree in Data Centre Leadership and Management through CNET and Anglia Ruskin University. I wanted to challenge myself by expanding my knowledge and this program ticked all of the boxes. It is definitely challenging with many weekends and evenings spent on the course material. I am nearly three years in and at the final stage which is the dissertation so all going well I should finish in September. I’ve really enjoyed the program and incorporating the new skills I’ve learnt such as leadership techniques within Kinetic IT.

Are there any little-known facts about you/interests?

I am currently learning how to skate on a long board which I’m sure has got to be an entertaining sight for any onlookers! Apart from that I am also a keen motorcyclist and ride on weekends with a club.

Any recommendations for moves, book, tv series or recipes?

I am an avid fiction reader generally staying in the realm of fantasy and horror. Having said that though I had not read any Stephen King until recently and can highly recommend The Shining and its sequel Doctor Sleep.
