Project Overview
Kinetic IT was selected by bwin.party to assist in a cost saving refresh project at their data centre in Paris.
bwin.party made the strategic decision to downscale their data hall footprint and upgrade their network equipment whilst doing this. This would entail fully surveying and documenting the existing equipment and infrastructure, decommissioning unrequired equipment and cabinets, as well as the installation of new equipment and structured cabling in a redesigned condensed space.
The project timescales were very aggressive and bwin.party were keen to ensure they selected a trusted IT solutions company who would take control of the entire process to ensure that the project was completed on time, on budget and with minimal disruption to their operational services.

Kinetic IT’s Solution
Kinetic IT proposed a solution divided into two phases:-
Phase 1: Network upgrade/rebuild
This comprised of a six cabinet design for the network installation, running alongside the existing environment. This involved the installation of the new network equipment as well as the installation of new structured cabling infrastructure (OM3 & CAT6) to allow connectivity patching within the new environment.
Recess brackets and brush strips were used to effectively manage the patching of network equipment within the server cabinets.
Phase 2: Cutover and Decommissioning/footprint reduction
The next stage was to ensure the successful cutover to the new environment, this involved the temporary connectivity from the old environment to the new environment, once data transfer had occurred the decommissioning of the old environment could take place.
Fourteen cabinets and related infrastructure were removed from the data centre and unrequired equipment was recycled or relocated.
The Challenge
This was by no means an easy project! The new network needed to be built alongside the existing whilst maintaining 100% uptime.
A real-time roll back plan also had to be devised before the migration could take place to try and mitigate risk. This proved difficult as the existing network environment and cabling infrastructure had no documentation, thus requiring a full audit before any decommissioning could take place.
Another challenge here was to provide a solution that would allow network equipment, related patching and servers to be racked within a cabinet designed to house servers so not ideal.

Conclusion
Each phase was completed within budget and on schedule without issue, thus minimalizing disruption to bwin.party’s services.
The new network was successfully installed. The removal of fourteen cabinets and related infrastructure and equipment resulted in a 70% reduction of footprint which ultimately proved pivotal in reducing bwin.party’s op erational costs
